here' to fresh lime soda high levels of soluble fiber in lime regulate the absorption of sugar in the blood stream and reduce spikes in blood sugar.

Saw the image of salted lime soda for beverage option for diabetics. But need to get it to your notice that most of the diabetics have renal or cardiac involvement. Thus salt cannot be used freely in their case.

Hi Alifia, what you said is very true. There are many other problems that come hand in hand with diabetes. Although we would all agree that mismanaged diabetes causes these problems. The base of this in our country is most often Sugar, and the idea here most probably is to send a message across to enjoy a lime soda that is not “sweet”.

I actually use himalayan salt to salt my lime soda.

Thats right Anita. But we fail to understand diabetes is not only sugar restriction. Diabetes management is a play of so many food groups! U will be surprised to know its salt restriction too( in most of the cases!)

Haha, If you ask me Alifia..I think we understand that it is a sugar restriction but we still refuse to process it. Baby steps? Sugar first and once that is achieved the so many other “problem” foods can be addressed. At one go if you tell a Diabetic to stop eating Sugar and Salt, they’ll think you’re crazy and eat both, don’t you think?

There are so many permutations and combinations in Diabetes and every diabetic SHOULD know their body to know what to eat and not. Tips are always going to come, its important to tweak nd use to our benefit right?

I add lime to my green tea, my grandmother always told me to have a glass of hot water with half lime squeezed in it every morning before eating anything to help me lose weight…it was her secret to beauty! And she’s healthier and fitter than most people in my family, not to mention her weight is lower than mine and skin is glowing. Need some more tips 😛

Most of the times it is noticed that constant blood sugars being out of control has led to other complications viz. Renal, Thyroid, etc. subsequently a cut down on Salt is prescribed or suggested.

Until the USDA food guidelines of 1970s, Iodine  was recommended to be eaten as it has many roles to play in the body especially the thyroid hormones for proper bone and brain development. Studies were conducted and children fed with salt daily (which was then fortified with iodine) performed better at exams and had higher IQs then those deficient.

It’s not the salt itself that’s making you gain weight—it’s the fact that most salty foods are processed and contain loads of sugar, gluten and preservatives, as well.

That’s another very interesting take! Makes sense.
